TITLE:  Safety Specialist – School Bus (La Crosse Region) 

 REPORTS TO: Vice President of Safety 

 EMPLOYEE:  Full Time Exempt

The Safety Specialist role has the responsibility for monitoring and enforcing GO Riteway company policy and procedure to assure that the assigned facilities operate in the safest and most proactive manner possible. This position is responsible for a variety of duties involving the safety of our customers, drivers, vehicles, facilities, and properties. The role will act as a liaison for drivers with management, schools, school officials, parents, and any other external parties as necessary. The role will be responsible for a variety of training presentations for internal, as well as, external audiences. The individual will be tasked with verification and observation of safe practices both on and off site.



  1. Act as the Safety Specialist relating to ensuring safe practices are followed on a daily basis. (60%)
  2. Identify, develop and implement Fleet Safety Best Practices and Related Strategies that contribute to on-going safety culture and operational improvement. (40%
  3. Assist in the daily operations of the terminal to provide transportation services for customers that meet Federal, State, DOT, OSHA, and local standards. Assure that all work is covered and performed and meet or exceed GO Riteway’s Safety and Quality service standards (10%)
  4. Partner with key stakeholders to maintain internal and external relationships that reinforce a safety culture. (as needed)


  •  Experience with fleet safety technologies such as inward/outward facing cameras, driver behavior monitoring, etc.
  •  Must be able to obtain and/or retain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a “P” and “S” endorsement 
  •  Ability to assist in the terminal’s dispatch operations when needed
  •  Demonstrated skills involving the use of computers and other office equipment.
  •  Knowledge of MS Word and Excel are desirable
  •  Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with external customers.
  •  Work collaboratively with others
  •  Ability to manage and resolve conflict
  •  Minimum 3-5 years management or supervisory experience



  •  At least three (3) years’ experience in a multi-terminal fleet operation, preferably in a safety role
  •  Prior experience in employee/driver development, coaching and training
  •  Certification in a recognized defensive driving course
  •  Background in behavior-based safety techniques and methodologies
  •  Bachelor Degree in Safety, Adult Education or equivalent experience or training
