The Safety Director for the Milwaukee region will partner with company stakeholders to maintain and further establish a culture of safety within the organization, with the majority of time being dedicated to the safety efforts and performance of Milwaukee Public School (MPS) School Bus operation. Manages risk and minimizes company loss with emphasis on school bus operations (i.e. continuous improvement in vehicle crash frequency and severity). Investigates, and utilizes resources that contribute to implementation of safety guidelines and programs. Under the direction of the Vice President of Safety, implements behavior-based safety initiatives and strategies to move the division to a proactive and preventive safety culture. Represents GO Riteway in front of governmental entities and associations when necessary. This position will develop strategies that build and maintain internal and external relationships that reinforce the organizational commitment to safety.



Reporting to the Vice President of Safety, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing policies, procedures and safety best practices to ensure organizational safety and compliance. Direct and conduct school bus safety specific audits to assess compliance and create an environment of continuous improvement. Conduct divisional loss run analysis to identify trends, then develop appropriate countermeasures to address same. Research industry trends to benchmark safety performance best practices to lead continuous improvement initiatives that contribute to overall school bus safety within the organization. Direct risk management and develop strategies to reduce risk through training and education and minimize loss in the school bus division. This position partners with key stakeholders to establish and maintain a safe working environment. Other duties as assigned.



  1. Take ownership of the GO Riteway’s fleet safety technology programs (40%)
    1. Develop, refine and implement safety, reporting and dissemination best practices to driver coaching and behavior improvement with LYTX
    2. Responsible for and ensuring compliance with LYTX driver monitoring program
    3. Identifying at- and high-risk drivers, then proactively and positively intervening before a crash occurs.
    4. Keep up to date with fleet safety technology, including but not limited to real-time driver behavior monitoring, rear-end crash avoidance systems, lane departure, and other early warning (preventive) anti-crash technologies


  1. Manage risk and develop proactive strategies to prevent/eliminate vehicle loss and equipment damage (40%)
    1. Responsible for reducing vehicle crash frequency and severity through the development and implementation of behavior-based safety training programs, incentive plans, competitions, etc.
    2. Responsible for crash investigation and preventability determination for all transportation vehicles
    3. Ensure that staff members who are responsible for crash reporting and investigation complete the report and  investigation timely, accurately and appropriately


  1. Identify Best Practices and recommend proactive Strategies that contribute to continuous safety improvement (10%)
    1. Research, investigate, and recommend methodologies that will promote and lead to a world-class safety culture
    2. Keep up-to-date of changes to laws and regulations that may impact the company and implement and communicate updates as necessary
  1. Partner with key stakeholders and maintains internal and external relationships that reinforce a safety culture (10%)
    1. Direct and manage the activities of related Safety staff and identified terminal staff in the development of programs and activities to improve safety awareness and maintain a compliant workplace.
    2. Produce and present safety training to groups of drivers.
    3. Partner with staff to provide counsel and direction on compliance.
    4. Represent  GO Riteway Transportation Group in front of governmental entities and associations; build partnerships with local agencies when necessary.


  1. Ensure Organizational Compliance with applicable Federal, State, Local and DOT Laws (as needed)
    1. Assist in the development of Organizational Policies and Procedures that address Federal, State, Local and DOT laws and requirements
    2. Stay current on developments and changes within governmental agencies and the transportation industry to maintain compliance
    3. Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of operational safety programs for all student transportation vehicles
    4. Conduct  audits and analyzes results to ensure that the company remains in compliance with Federal, State, Local and DOT regulations and initiates       continuous improvement strategies



  • Must be able to obtain and/retain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with “P” and “S” endorsements
  • Must possess a minimum five (5) years fleet safety management experience with large and multi-terminal operations
  • Must be proficient in Behavior-Based Safety philosophies, methodologies and practices
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Occupational Health & Safety, Logistics with an emphasis in safety, or related field
  • Training, experience and/or certification in vehicle crash investigation/reconstruction preferred
  • Training, experience and/or certification in the safe transportation of people/students preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and other office equipment, including proficient knowledge of MS Word and Excel are required
  • Experience directing and managing a fleet safety program
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with external customers.
  • Work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict in a positive and professional manner
  • Minimum 10+ years management or supervisory experience, preferably in a transportation or fleet environment




  • Training, experience and/or certification in vehicle crash investigation/reconstruction preferred.
  • Training, experience and/or certification in the safe transportation of people/students preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups
