POSITION OVERVIEW

 

TITLE:                                  Accountant – Operations 

 

LOCATION:                        Riteway Bus Service, Inc. – Oak Creek, WI 

 

REPORTS TO:                    Corporate Controller 

 

EMPLOYEE:                       Full Time, Exempt

 

 

KEY RESULT AREAS

 

General Accounting. (50%) 

  • Books month-end journal entries and prepares balance sheet reconciliations as part of month-end close. 
  • Prepares bank account reconciliations on a monthly basis. 
  • Prepares daily bank deposits including counting cash.
  • Completes full accounting for subsidiaries including monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and forecasting. 
  • Reviews school bus route and charter billing for accuracy against the contract, route board, and payroll records. 
  • Prepares fuel billing to school districts based on operational reports and inventory readings. 
  • Populates monthly fuel usage reports.
  • Assists with obtaining key performance indicator data.
  • Resolves month end variances from budget and provides explanations for remaining variances.
  • Reviews accounts payable for accurate data entry for payments.
  • Preforms ad hoc analysis of data and trends to drive business decisions. 

Payroll – Time & Attendance. (50%) 

  • Reviews commercial service and school bus charter trip sheets to determine drivers’ payroll hours and enters into reservation software.
  • Critically analyzes and questions trip data that appears irregular in nature.
  • Updates trip information in the reservation software so that the customer is properly billed.
  • Answers drivers’ questions regarding their payroll.
  • Processes any related driver expenses.
  • Works closely with operational personnel to make sure payroll and billing are accurate.

 

  • Understands weekly payroll process to perform as a backup when needed.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  •  Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  •  1-3 years’ experience in an accounting environment.
  •  Basic understanding of accounting concepts and principles.
  •  Demonstrated skills involving the use of computers and other office equipment; Excel required; Access desirable.
